About Tyson

Professional History

I am a criminal defence lawyer with Dunn & Associates since 2009.  I was called to the bar in Saskatchewan in 2001.  I started practice in Alberta in 2003 and was called to the bar here in 2004.  I have practised almost exclusively in criminal law since 2006.

I articled with a large commercial and corporate firm in Saskatoon in 2001 and also worked there as an associate, practising mainly in the area of civil litigation. I then joined a small firm in Canmore, Alberta in 2003 where I did criminal, civil and family law. I started my own firm in 2006, and have been practising almost exclusively criminal defence since that time.

I am a fluent French speaker, and am one of the select few lawyers in Alberta who has conducted trials in French.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours from the University of Ottawa, and received my law degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

While in Ottawa, I worked for two years as a Page in the Senate of Canada. I was heavily involved with intercollegiate debate, serving in various executive positions with the English Debating Society at the University of Ottawa, as well as serving as the chairman of the organizing committee of the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate National Championships in 1996. I also worked for the United Nations Association on the 50th anniversary celebrations of the United Nations.

I returned to Saskatoon to attend law school. I was a member of the College of Law team from the University of Saskatchewan that won the Western Canada Trial Moot Competitionin 1999, and competed at the national Sopinka Moot Competition that same year. In 2000 I competed in the Laskin Moot, where my team mate and myself were undefeated in our competition rounds. The Laskin Moot is an appellate moot on an issue of administrative and regulatory law. It is a bilingual competition and I competed in French.

In 2000 I also received a scholarship from the Center for Studies in Agriculture, Law and Economics from the University of Saskatchewan and studied at the Internationella Handelshögskolan in Jönköping, Sweden (Jönköping International Business School), where I studied law and economics.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, I moved to Alberta in 2003.  I’ve lived in Canmore since that time, but I’ve represented clients all across Alberta.  I love the mountains for the skiing, hiking and bicycling.  I live in Canmore with my family, though my main office is in Calgary to better serve my clients.
